When was the last time you read a poem in any language? When was the last time you listened to a song? In this class we will approach poetry through music, in versions of Spanish poems set to music, from contemporary classics to Afro-Spanish rap.

Prerequisites: Spanish 303 or 316; Spanish 321, or by permission of instructor.

Modern lyric poetry of the Hispanic world. The period studied extends from 1870 to 1936 and deals with thirteen major poets, from Becquer to Hernandez. Prerequisite: either SPAN 303 or SPAN 316; SPAN 321. Instructors: Geist
