Dr. Fernando Miño Garcés, Founder and Director of the Andean Center for Latin American Studies (ACLAS), and local Director of the UW in Quito Program, has been admitted to the Ecuadorian Academy of Languages, which, along with La Real Española Academia de la Lengua and twenty other organizations, make up La Asociación de Academias de la Lengua Española (ASALE).

Miño Garcés has over 40 years’ experience as a teacher of languages and linguistics, and served as Dean of the School of Communication, Linguistics and Literature at the Pontifical Catholic University of Ecuador (PUCE), says the ACLAS website.

La Real Española Academia de la Lengua, based in Madrid, is the official royal institution that oversees the Spanish language.  It founded the Ecuadorian Academy of Languages in 1870.  ASALE is the union of language academies that govern the official use of Spanish in the hispanophone world.
