Sergio will be teaching a general flamenco cajón course covering technique, compás, and multiple palos at various levels of difficulty.

Pre-requisite: Must bring a cajón. Beginning to Advanced flamenco students could all benefit from this class.

Take advantage of this rare opportunity to study with a true master percussionist while he is in town recording on the new “Eric & Encarnación” CD. Sergio was also part of our 2012 Flamenco de Raiz tour with Rafael de Utrera. 

Born in Madrid,Spain, Sergio Martínez grew up in a very musical family and started playing percussion at age 15, studied with Paco de Lucia’s percussionist Rubem Dantas, and afro-cuban percussion with Rogerio da Souza and Luisito Dulzaides. He added courses in Hindu percussion with Ramesh Sotham studied percussion and drumset in el Taller de Músics

Now one of the most versatile and in demand percussionists in the world, Sergio recorded and played for artists like Enrique Morente, Jose Mercé, Diego el CIgala, Jorge Pardo among many others, accompanying some of the most important dancers like Joaquin Cortés, Antonio Canales or Rocío Molina in Flamenco, participating in some of the most important Flamenco, Jazz and World Music festivals, touring all around the world like Montreal Jazz, Monterey Jazz, Panama Jazz, and Womad.

Now known as a go-to studio musician, he has recently worked with Paul Simon and important jazz musicians like Dave Liebman, Jeff Ballard, Joe Lovano, John Patitucci, Danilo Perez, Terry Line Carrinton and Jamey Haddad.
