Language Exchange Program in need of Portuguese Students for Language Partnerships

The Language Exchange Program is under the UW International & English Language Programs (IELP). Students who are studying in the UW Intensive English Program sign up for a conversation partner with whom they can practice their English. The English Speakers are matched with people who are either studying the foreign student’s language or just want to learn about different cultures. Partners usually meet once a week for about an hour, during which they spend half the time talking in English and half the time talking in the foreign student’s native language. This program is a valuable learning resource for students, but very few people know about it! We are always very short on participants, resulting in many students being unmatched.

The Language Exchange Program has a large group of new students for the incoming Spring Quarter who are from Brazil and speak Portuguese, and the program is seeking students and faculty that might be interested in having a conversation partner. Sign up at the Language Exchange website (http://www.ielp.uw.edu/student-life/activities/language-exchange/) beginning March 31st, 2014.
